The Los Angeles Kings have announced additions to their hockey operations staff for the 2026-27 season, according to NHL.com. Dr. John Meyer is one of the new additions. He has been named President of Player Health and Performance, a role that oversees the club's approach to player health, performance, injury prevention and rehabilitation.
Meyer is a clinician who has worked in the Los Angeles community for more than 25 years. NHL.com says he specializes in biomechanical movement analysis and how it relates to orthopedic and sports injuries.
Meyer is also President and CEO of the Meyer Institute of Sport, which is based at Toyota Sports Performance Center in El Segundo. His team provides physical therapy, movement analysis and preventative performance programs to the LA Kings and to professional athletes in several other leagues and sports, including the NFL, NBA and MLB.
His past roles include Chairman of Performance Health and Wellness for the Los Angeles Clippers and Associate Athletic Director of Sports Science and Performance in USC's Department of Athletic Medicine. He has also been an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Physical Therapy at USC. Meyer earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and Orthopedic Residency Certificate from USC and is a Board-Certified Specialist in Orthopedics.
The announcement also covers Andrews, whom NHL.com calls the fourth Head Athletic Trainer in team history. He is entering his sixth season with the organization after joining as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in 2021. From 2017 to 2021 he was Head Athletic Trainer for the Ontario Reign, the Kings' AHL affiliate. Before that, he held the same job with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL and the Binghamton Senators of the AHL.
