Tyler Higbee tops 4,000 career receiving yards as Rams lean on him against Denver

The 11-year Rams tight end had a team-high eight catches and a touchdown against Denver. He says milestones follow from doing his job, and they aren't something he chases.

Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee stepped into a bigger role in Monday night's game against Denver, a game in which two Rams tight ends were playing hurt and one eventually couldn't continue, according to TheRams.com.

Higbee caught three passes on the Rams' opening drive, including a five-yard touchdown that put Los Angeles up 7-0 early. He finished with a team-high eight receptions for 62 yards and that one score.

The performance pushed Higbee past 4,000 career receiving yards. It also moved him into a tie for 10th in franchise history in career receiving touchdowns.

Higbee told TheRams.com that individual numbers aren't what drives him. "I mean, if I'm doing my job, that stuff will come. You know what I mean?" he said. He added that winning football games comes first, and that while the milestones are an honor, they are "not necessarily something I'm chasing."

The workload was a big change from the start of the season. According to TheRams.com, Higbee played 19.7% of the offensive snaps in Week 1 and 25.8% in Week 2. Before Terrance Ferguson was injured and Colby Parkinson hurt his shoulder, Higbee's role had shifted in a way he hadn't seen in his first 10 seasons, except perhaps as a rookie.
