Los Angeles Rams inside linebacker Omar Speights has two career sacks, according to TheRams.com. The first came in the 2024 playoff against the Eagles, who are the Rams' opponent this weekend in Philadelphia.
On that play, the Eagles were at the Rams' 32-yard line with 30 seconds left in the half. Speights came on a disguised blitz, got past the interior lineman and brought down quarterback Jalen Hurts, knocking the ball loose. Philadelphia recovered the fumble, but the strip sack pushed the Eagles back to the 47-yard line and out of field goal range with three seconds left in the half.
TheRams.com described the sack as the capstone of Speights' rookie year. He went from undrafted free agent to a spot on the initial 53-man roster, and from Week 10 on he played more than half of the defensive snaps per game. The play also came in his hometown, a reunion he told the team site he still remembers clearly.
"I remember that play a lot," Speights told therams.com. "I remember the exact call we was in and everything." He said the Eagles didn't count him in protection and the running back was late picking him up, which let him beat the block quickly and reach Hurts.
Speights got his first regular-season sack the week before this trip, against the Broncos on Sunday Night Football. On the first play after the two-minute warning in the first half, with Denver on a third-and-2 at the Rams' 43-yard line, he stayed on his feet through a low chip block by running back Tyler Badie and dragged down quarterback Bo Nix at the 50. TheRams.com reported that the sack pushed the Broncos out of field goal range and helped keep them scoreless in the first half.
