Magic Johnson, whom the Los Angeles Times identifies as a co-owner, publicly criticized the Washington Commanders after a clock-management mistake late in overtime cost them a chance to beat the New York Giants on Sunday. The Times reports that Johnson expressed "total disbelief" over the sequence.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Washington had the ball at New York's 24-yard line with 12 seconds left in overtime. Instead of stopping the clock to set up a field goal attempt, quarterback Jayden Daniels was tackled as time ran out.
A photo caption with the Times report describes the result as a tie game against the Giants in Landover, Maryland.
Coach Dan Quinn and Daniels each took responsibility for the mistake, the Times reports.
The Times called Johnson's comments a rare rebuke and noted that the former Lakers great generally keeps his social media posts upbeat.
