Mike Evans says his viral sideline moment with Trevon Diggs wasn't meant as a diss

The 49ers receiver says he didn't recognize the Seahawks cornerback under his helmet during Sunday's game in Seattle, though one phrase kept the debate going.

San Francisco 49ers receiver Mike Evans says one of the most-shared moments from Sunday's game in Seattle was not what it looked like. The Los Angeles Times reports that Evans meant no disrespect toward Seahawks cornerback Trevon Diggs during a sideline exchange that spread quickly online.

The exchange happened late in the second quarter of San Francisco's 32-29 win over Seattle. Fox Sports cameras caught Evans turning Diggs around to look at the name on his jersey.

Evans told the Times he didn't recognize Diggs with his helmet on and wasn't trying to slight him. "I honestly didn't know it was him," Evans said.

His explanation may not end the conversation, though. The Times noted that Evans called Diggs a "good player" in the past tense, which could keep the trash-talk angle alive.

On the field, Evans had a productive day. He finished with seven catches for 113 yards and celebrated a touchdown against the Seahawks.
