Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that he expects wide receiver Puka Nacua to play Sunday against the Eagles, according to TheRams.com. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. PT on FOX.
Nacua is expected to be limited in Wednesday's practice, McVay said. The coach tied the expectation that he will play to the progress Nacua has made. McVay pointed to a good workout on Sunday and a good walkthrough on Wednesday, and said he was excited to have him back.
TheRams.com reports that Nacua had five receptions for 74 yards in the Week 1 game against the 49ers. He then missed the next two games with what McVay later clarified as groin soreness. The report's injury notation lists a hip, so the two descriptions differ in the source.
Looking back at last season, TheRams.com notes that Nacua led the NFL in receptions with 129 and finished second in receiving yards with 1,715. He also tied for sixth in receiving touchdowns with 10 and was one of five finalists for Offensive Player of the Year.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford called Nacua one of the best receivers in the league. He described him as a great player both with the football and without it, and said his passion rubs off on everyone in the huddle.
Stafford added that he is happy for Nacua that he is feeling good enough to test it out this week. The Rams' plans for Sunday rest on how Nacua feels, as McVay described it on Wednesday.
