Kings Fall to Sharks 5-4 in Overtime After Third-Period Rally

Los Angeles came back from two goals down in the third period, but Igor Chernyshov's second goal of the night won it for San Jose in overtime.

The Los Angeles Kings are still looking for their first win of the season. According to The Hockey News, they lost 5-4 in overtime to the San Jose Sharks on the road. LA had also lost its season opener.

Igor Chernyshov did the damage for San Jose. The forward scored twice, including the overtime winner, and handed the Kings their second straight loss.

The game started well for Los Angeles. Artemi Panarin set up Adrian Kempe for the first goal at 4:10. It was the Kings' first power-play goal of the season and gave them a 1-0 lead.

The Kings were down by two goals in the third period before they came back. The Hockey News pointed to Brandt Clarke, Erik Haula, Panarin and Quinton Byfield as players who had big nights in the rally. The outlet also said the defense fell short again.

The overtime loss leaves the Kings as one of five Western Conference teams still without a win. The Hockey News noted that opening with two road games is hard for any team. The outlet headlined its story with a quote from Kempe: "I think we deserved better tonight."
