The Los Angeles Kings lost their home opener to the Florida Panthers 2-1 on Tuesday evening at Crypto.com Arena, according to NHL.com's game recap.
Alex Laferriere put Los Angeles ahead with 60 seconds left in the first period. He carried the puck in with speed and won the race for it in the corner. Erik Haula then won the puck below the goal line and came around the net, and Laferriere scored on the rebound. It was his first goal of the season and gave the Kings a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Florida tied it early in the second period, just after a long Kings power play ended without a goal. Defenseman Seth Jones took a pass from Lars Eller in transition, drove toward the net, moved the puck to his forehand and beat goaltender Darcy Kuemper high.
The Panthers took their first lead midway through the third period. Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke turned the puck over in the neutral zone, and Florida came the other way with numbers. Sam Bennett pulled up in the slot and passed to Matthew Tkachuk on the left wing, who beat Kuemper for what proved to be the winning goal.
NHL.com's recap also included postgame interviews with Laferriere, defenseman Drew Doughty and head coach Peter Laviolette.
