Joe Musgrove is on the San Diego Padres' postseason roster for the Wild Card round, according to MLB Trade Rumors, which cites a team announcement. The club has not yet revealed the official transaction.
To make it happen, Musgrove will have to be activated from the 60-day IL. MLB Trade Rumors notes that the move will require an adjustment to the 40-man roster.
If he pitches, it will be his first time on a major league mound in almost exactly two years. His last appearance also came in the Wild Card round, when he started a series-clinching game against the Braves in 2024, the report says.
After that outing, Musgrove dealt with an elbow injury that ultimately led to Tommy John surgery. He then missed the entire 2025 season, and MLB Trade Rumors says his recovery this year has included multiple setbacks.
His last rehab appearance came on August 27 with Triple-A El Paso. He threw five innings of one-run ball but did not recover well afterward, per the report. He started in each of his four rehab outings.
As for his role, MLB Trade Rumors expects him to likely shift to a bullpen role with the Padres. The report describes how San Diego is lining up its starters for the series, and readers should treat Musgrove's activation as pending until the team makes it official.
