Tyler Wade is retiring from baseball. MLB Trade Rumors reported on Sept. 29, 2026, that the infielder and outfielder announced his decision on Instagram. His big-league career included time with the Yankees, Angels, Athletics and San Diego Padres.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Yankees drafted Wade in the fourth round in 2013. He worked his way through the system and reached the majors for a short stint in 2017. Over the next four seasons he moved on and off the big-league roster.
The publisher says his best year was 2021, when he played a career-high 103 games. Wade hit .268 and stole 17 bases as a semi-regular for New York that year.
After that season, the Yankees designated him for assignment and traded him to the Angels. MLB Trade Rumors writes that he struggled in Los Angeles and went back to the Yankees the same season, but he did not appear in the majors. He then moved on to the A's and the Padres. The report does not describe his time in San Diego.
The 31-year-old signed a minor league deal with the Rangers this past winter. He posted a 53 wRC+ over 16 games at Triple-A Round Rock, and Texas released him in mid-April, per the report.
MLB Trade Rumors says Wade did not make much of an impact at the plate, with a 65 wRC+, but he brought speed and defensive versatility. He played every position except catcher and first base. He finished with 51 steals in 992 plate appearances.
