Ducks sign defenseman Tristan Luneau to six-year contract extension

The extension starts in the 2027-28 season and runs through 2032-33. General manager Pat Verbeek says the team sees the 22-year-old as a top-four defenseman.

The Anaheim Ducks have signed defenseman Tristan Luneau to a six-year contract extension, NHL.com reported. The deal starts with the 2027-28 season and runs through the 2032-33 campaign.

In the announcement on NHL.com, Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said a long-term deal with Luneau was a priority because the club sees him "as a top-four defenseman for years to come." Verbeek added that finishing the deal before the season was a key part of the team's plans for both the present and the future.

Luneau, 22, has played 14 NHL games with Anaheim and has two goals and two assists. His only game with the Ducks in 2025-26 was his season debut on April 16, 2026, at Nashville, when he scored the game-tying goal. He made his NHL debut in 2023-24 and played seven games that season. On Nov. 30, 2023, against Washington, he became the fifth-youngest defenseman in Ducks history to score a goal, at 19 years, 322 days old.

Most of his pro hockey has come with the San Diego Gulls in the AHL. Last season he had 10 goals and 31 assists for 41 points in 70 games, and his goal total was a single-season high. He led Gulls defensemen in points, assists and shots. His 27 points after the All-Star Break were the most of any AHL blueliner. Over the past two seasons, he ranked third in points among AHL defensemen.

In 2024-25, Luneau had 52 points in 59 games with San Diego and was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team. Anaheim picked him in the second round, 53rd overall, of the 2022 NHL Draft. The Victoriaville, Quebec, native was named QMJHL Defenseman of the Year in 2022-23 after scoring 83 points in 65 games for Gatineau.
