Ducks Reassign Defenseman Travis Mitchell to AHL San Diego Gulls

After five games with Anaheim to start the season, the 26-year-old defenseman is headed to the Ducks' top development affiliate.

The Anaheim Ducks have sent defenseman Travis Mitchell to the San Diego Gulls, the club's main development affiliate in the American Hockey League, according to an announcement posted on NHL.com on Oct. 12, 2026.

Mitchell, 26, played in Anaheim's first five games of the season. He had three shots and nine penalty minutes while averaging 16:36 of ice time per game. Anaheim signed him on July 2, 2026, to a one-year, two-way contract. He made his Ducks debut Oct. 2 at Vegas and played 20:38 that night, the most ice time of his career.

The 6-foot-3, 202-pound blueliner has played 14 NHL games across two teams, Anaheim and the New York Islanders. He broke into the NHL with the Islanders in 2025-26 and scored his first NHL goal during a nine-game stint there.

Mitchell spent most of last season with the Islanders' AHL affiliate in Bridgeport. He set a career high there with 17 points (one goal, 16 assists), along with a plus-3 rating and 87 penalty minutes. In 163 career AHL games with Bridgeport, he has 34 points and 231 penalty minutes.

Mitchell is from South Lyon, Michigan. Before turning pro, he played four seasons at Cornell University from 2019 to 2023 and finished with 47 points in 95 NCAA games.
