The Los Angeles Chargers have brought up tight end Patrick Herbert and outside linebacker Caleb Murphy from the practice squad for Sunday's game, according to a team announcement on Chargers.com. In the same set of moves, the team put guard/tackle Trey Pipkins III on Reserve/Injured and signed quarterback DJ Uiagalelei to the active roster.
Herbert, the younger brother of Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, joined the Los Angeles practice squad at the start of September. He made his NFL debut in last week's game at Buffalo after a standard elevation. Before joining the Chargers, he spent his rookie season and the 2026 offseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville elevated him for one game last year, but he was inactive for that Week 18 contest.
In college, Herbert played three seasons at the University of Oregon (2022-24). Over 25 games there, he caught 31 passes for 388 yards and four touchdowns. He went to Sheldon High in Eugene, Oregon, where he was a first-team All-State tight end as a senior. He also earned first-team All-Conference honors in basketball as a junior.
Murphy was also elevated for last week's game at Buffalo, which was his first appearance for the Chargers in 2026. He has played 20 career games for the Tennessee Titans, Chargers and New England Patriots, with nine tackles (five solo), a half-sack and a quarterback hit. Chargers.com notes that he has been a regular on special teams, where he has 10 career tackles.
Murphy, who is from Dowagiac, Michigan, signed with the Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Ferris State in 2023. In 2021, he was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year after recording 63 tackles, 14.5 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss as Ferris State won the NCAA Division II national title. A year later, he set an NCAA single-season record with 25.5 sacks and tied an NCAA record with 39 tackles for loss as Ferris State won a second straight Division II championship.
