LAFC has named Xavi Tamarit its interim head coach. The club announced the move in a release on LAFC.com dated Oct. 1, 2026.
John Thorrington, LAFC's president of soccer operations, said Tamarit has "a clear understanding of our players, their strengths and what this group needs now." Thorrington also said the club's "standards and ambitions remain unchanged" and that the team is "committed to giving everything to finish the 2026 season strong."
Tamarit joined LAFC in January. According to the club, he has more than two decades of elite coaching experience in some of the world's most competitive leagues, including England's Premier League, Spain's La Liga and Argentina's top division.
He holds both UEFA Pro and CONMEBOL Pro licenses. He completed postgraduate studies in high-performance football at the University of Porto and has written several books on the subject. LAFC says he is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
The club said Tamarit's familiarity with LAFC's players and his daily work inside the club leave him well placed to lead the group for the rest of the season. The LAFC.com release gave no other details beyond Tamarit's appointment.
