LAFC fires first-year coach Marc Dos Santos with six regular-season matches left

The move came less than a day after a 1-0 loss to FC Dallas. The club is starting a search for a new manager right away but hasn't said who will coach the Oct. 10 match.

LAFC fired head coach Marc Dos Santos on Sunday, the Los Angeles Times reported. He was in his first year leading the club, and six matches remain in the MLS regular season.

The club announced the move in a three-paragraph statement less than 24 hours after Saturday's 1-0 loss to FC Dallas. LAFC's record is 11-9-8.

"Marc has given a great deal to this club over the years, and we are grateful for his commitment, care and contributions to LAFC," John Thorrington, the team's president of soccer operations, said in the release. "We wish Marc and his family all the best moving forward."

LAFC said the search for a new manager will start immediately. The club did not say who will coach its next match on Oct. 10, which comes after a two-week FIFA international break.

Dos Santos, 49, has a long history with the club. He was an assistant on Bob Bradley's staff during LAFC's first season in 2018. He then left to take over the Vancouver Whitecaps, where he went 22-39-20 over two and a half years. The COVID-19 pandemic heavily affected his time in Vancouver and forced the Whitecaps to play many of their games on the road.
