LAFC has agreed to a new multi-year contract extension with defender Eddie Segura, LAFC.com reported on October 12, 2026. The deal runs through the 2029-2030 season, and the club holds an option for 2030-2031.
John Thorrington, LAFC's president of soccer operations, said Segura has earned the trust and respect of everyone at the club through his consistency, professionalism and leadership. Thorrington also said the defender has played an important role in some of the biggest moments in club history.
Segura, 29, is from Pereira, Colombia. He first arrived at LAFC on loan from Atlético Huila in November 2018, when he was 21, and the move became permanent in July 2019. He made his LAFC and MLS debut on March 3, 2019, in a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City. He then put together a club-record 72 consecutive regular-season appearances before a season-ending injury in July 2021.
After several setbacks during his recovery, Segura signed his first extension with LAFC in July 2023. He returned to the field for the 2024 MLS season opener against the Seattle Sounders on February 24, 2024. Since then he has filled several roles across the back line and in midfield.
According to LAFC.com, Segura has made 216 appearances (179 starts) in all competitions for the club, with five goals and eight assists. Along the way, LAFC won two Supporters' Shields (2019, 2022), the 2022 MLS Cup and the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
This season, Segura became LAFC's all-time leader in minutes played across all competitions on February 17, 2026, in a Concacaf Champions Cup match against Real España. On May 10, 2026, against the Houston Dynamo, he made his 153rd regular-season appearance, passing Carlos Vela's club record of 152. As of the club's announcement, he had made 31 appearances (29 starts) in 2026, including scoring the only goal, in stoppage time, of a 1-0 Leagues Cup Phase One win over Toluca.
