Brewers Take NLCS Game 1 From Dodgers, Getting Just Enough Against Tarik Skubal

The two-time Cy Young Award winner, acquired by the Dodgers at the trade deadline, gave up a run in the fifth inning as Milwaukee's Brewers struck first in the series.

The Brewers drew first blood in the National League Championship Series, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Times reported that the Brewers got just enough offense against Dodgers pitcher Tarik Skubal, who allowed a run in the fifth inning.

Skubal is a two-time Cy Young Award winner. The Dodgers went after him at the trade deadline because they saw him as a rare player who could help their chances of winning a third straight World Series, the Times reported.

Acquiring Skubal also kept other postseason contenders from getting him. According to the Times, that meant the Dodgers were sure they wouldn't have to face him in October.

In Game 1, though, Skubal's presence on the Dodgers' side wasn't enough to keep the Brewers from taking the series opener.
